You deserve a good night’s sleep as well as the comfort and security of knowing your smile is protected. Dr. Stephen M. Taylor, Dr. Jim O. Taylor and Dr. William Reed provide night guards in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to prevent damage to your teeth and ensure that your smile remains healthy.

What Is A Night Guard?

Night guards are a type of custom-made oral appliance. This type of mouth guard is typically recommended to manage bruxism, or chronic teeth grinding and clenching. Your night guard will be specially designed to fit comfortably, and, once in place, will work to prevent your upper and lower dental arches from touching, dispersing the pressure that would otherwise lead to broken, chipped, fractured or flattened teeth. Night guards are an excellent solution when it comes to keeping your smile healthy, and our dentists will work closely with you to ensure that your night guard meets your needs.

Bruxism (Teeth Grinding)

Bruxism is the grinding and clenching of teeth. While it can occur at any time, it is more common at night while you are asleep. This condition is among the largest contributing factors to tooth damage, and if untreated, can cause a number of oral health problems, such as:

  • Broken, chipped and worn teeth
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Broken dentures or other oral appliances
  • Earaches and ear ringing (tinnitus)
  • Sore jaw joints (which may cause or contribute to a TMJ disorder)
  • Tension and pain in the head, neck and shoulder muscles
  • Pain and tightness in the jaw, face or ears
  • Increased tooth sensitivity
  • Indentations on the sides of the tongue

Our dentists will examine your mouth carefully to determine if bruxism is the cause of your tooth damage and whether a night guard is the best solution for your needs.
